Difference between Speed Assist, Speed Events and Speed Siren

SPEED ASSIST

SPEED EVENTS

SPEED SIREN

What does it do?

Speed Assist is a compliance app on the iFace, that allows a driver to set their own speed limits. The screen gives a visual queue to the driver when they have breached a set speed limit.Speed events are actions created by excessive speed and duration from driver. NextGen creates and sends Emails/SMS/Notifications when an event occurs. The speed siren is an audible device that alert the driver that he/she has exceeded speed set by the Transport Operator.

How does it work?

It uses the GPS chip from the iFace tablet or Telematics Box depending on your setup. When the Telematics Box detects breach parameters (see below FAQ), a message gets sent to NextGen to alert users.A signal is sent from Telematics Box to the speed siren device which is located behind the dash/console.

How do I configure?

Tap the settings cog from the home page, then the "Speed Assist Settings" button.Alert email/sms are configured in NextGen via "My Alerts" settings tool bar. If event vehicle settings need to be changed, please write/email NextGenSupport@TeletracNavman.comThe settings work independently from Speed Events, and are set by Teletrac Navman Customer Support.

FAQ

Speed Assist speeds are different to my Speedo? What variables do my settings contain? What variables does the siren consider a breach?
The application is to be used as a driver tool to help manage speed. The Australian Design Rules have a specified speedometer tolerance but changes in tire size or wear and tear on a vehicle may mean these are no longer met. Simply changing tyre size on a vehicle will mean the speedometer is no longer correct.Speed Event Threshold - ie 100km/h
Offset - Km/h over when event starts recording
Duration - Number of seconds the GPS speed must be above the limit before an event is triggered.

Eg. 100km/h - 4km/h - 4 seconds
Vehicle will need to be travelling @ 104km/h for 4+ sec. for an event to occur.
Warning Threshold - ie 100km/h
Warning Length - Number of seconds before the siren is triggered.

Eg. 100km/h - 4 seconds
Vehicle will need to be travelling @ 100km/h for 4+ sec. for the siren to be triggered.

I just received an event email. What does it all mean? The siren is too loud?
Please click the below link which will show you how to interpret a speed event. LINKThe speed siren can not be adjusted for sound or pitch and meets OHS requirements with a maximum decibel rating of 98db - if you don’t speed, you don’t hear it.
