Speed Assist and Speed Events for vehicles with IVU's and iFaces

SPEED ASSIST

SPEED EVENTS

What does it do?

Speed Assist is a compliance app on the iFace, that allows a driver to set their own speed limits. The screen gives a visual queue to the driver when they have breached a set speed limit.Speed events are created when the speed limit setting is exceeded by the specified threshold, for the specified duration. NextGen creates and sends Emails/SMS/Notifications when an event occurs. Speed limits, thresholds and durations can be assigned company wide, across fleets or for individual vehicles.

How does it work?

Speed Assist uses the GPS chip from the iFace tablet or IVU if connected. The second by second speed data as recorded by the GPS chip is displayed on the iFace, If the speed threshold is breached for the set duration the Face will alert the driver with a visible and audible warning. The warning will continue until the vehicles speed drops under the threshold.

The Speed Assist app only shows when the driver has left the iFace on the Home screen, if another app is open the Speed Assist app will not start.

Speed Events are generated when the second by second speed data, as recorded by the GPS chip on the IVU, exceeds the set parameters defined in Nextgen. When the iFace detects breach parameters (see below FAQ), a message gets sent to NextGen to alert users.

Speed Events can be viewed in the Speed Event Management report. They can also be viewed and the action recorded against each violation in the Compliance Management Report.

How do I configure?

Tap the settings cog from the home page, then the "Speed Assist Settings" button. There are three main settings:

  1. You can set the amount of time the screen must be idle before the Speed Assist app starts.
  2. You can set the number of kmh over the speed limit you want to be alerted at
  3. You can set the number of seconds over the threshold before the alerts starts

Alert emails or sms are configured in NextGen via "My Alerts" settings tool bar. If event vehicle settings need to be changed, please write/email NextGenSupport@TeletracNavman.com

By default the parameters set are:

  • Speed Limit = 100kmh
  • Threshold = 7kmh
  • Duration = 5 seconds

How do I configure?

Speed Assist speeds are different to my Speedo?

The application is to be used as a driver tool to help manage speed. The Australian Design Rules have a specified speedometer tolerance but changes in tire size or wear and tear on a vehicle may mean these are no longer met. Simply changing tyre size on a vehicle will mean the speedometer is no longer correct.

Will the Speed Assist app report my speed breaches to my Supervisor?

No, the Speed Assist app is purely a tool to help the driver manage their speed. The driver can set their own thresholds, and it is good advice to set these below the Company Policy speed limits.

How do I set my speed?

Use the buttons on the Speed assist app, If you go through roadwork's, you may want to set it at 40kmh, just use the 40 button on the screen and it will continue to alert at 40kmh until you change it. If the speed you want to be alerted at isn't on the iFace screen you can use the "Set Current Speed" button.

What variables do my settings contain?

Speed Event Threshold - ie 100km/h
Offset - Km/h over when event starts recording
Duration - Number of seconds the GPS speed must be above the limit before an event is triggered.

Eg. 100km/h - 4km/h - 4 seconds
Vehicle will need to be travelling at least 104km/h for 4 sec. for an event to occur.

I just received an event email. What does it all mean?
