Sentinel is both functional and feature-rich. Since the introduction of  Sentinel 4, the focus has been on a useable fatigue management platform for a modern transport operation. Sentinel takes a present-day approach to fatigue compliance, designed to be applied in more ways than expected.

Rostering, Payroll & Accounts

In this inaugural first-edition, we'll take you through Sentinel's ability to help with driver rostering, accounts & payroll.

Before we dig into the good bits, we first need to go through two things.

Part 1: Automation. Streamline an entire operation’s fatigue processes.

As the driver starts work, starts rest or finishes work, they simply tap a button in the Sentinel app on the iFace at each exact moment. Dependent on the driver's range to the cellular network, this fatigue status change is transmitted to NextGen along with the GPS location and date & time. Paired with instant notifications to both the driver and the operator, Sentinel becomes a powerful tool.

Back-office staff gain the ability to gauge a driver's current and historical fatigue information, which is available 24/7 through NextGen. You no longer have to wait for the driver to return to the depot with their work diary sheets.

Best of all, the iFace calculates fatigue information for the driver independent of NextGen. This means that if the driver is out of communications range, they are able to gain instant feedback into their fatigue. Once the driver returns to communications range, the information is synchronised with NextGen.

Part 2: Reporting. Advanced analytical information furthering insights into fatigue-centred processes.

With Sentinel, you gain access to a number of fatigue management reports, all aimed at providing varying information for different intents and purposes.

For today's tutorial, there are two reports that we'll focus on:

  • The Fatigue Management Summary report provides a snapshot of each driver's fatigue hours.
  • The Driver Daily Summary report provides each driver's hours worked per calendar day.

These two reports provide differing analytical information from the same fatigue data recorded from the driver and the iFace. All fatigue reports, including the two mentioned, are designed to help differing roles in a modern transport operation.

A new window into driver rostering.

Using the fatigue management summary report outlined above, an allocator is given a complete breakdown into the driver's available hours based on their assigned rule set with the fatigue management summary report.

This report makes rostering drivers a breeze. With each driver's fatigue history available, it is calculated against their assigned ruleset. The result is a report that makes an allocators life easier than ever.

With a click of the button, allocators are able to see:

  • The hours worked and hours available.
  • When the last 24hr break was and when the next one is required.
  • How many night rests have been completed and when their next one is due.
  • The elapsed night/long hours along with the total available.
  • The elapsed hours until the 84hr rule is broken.

This is a gold mine of information for an allocator. With this amount of detail, the allocator can accurately roster all their drivers accurately and safely.

This ensures the operator is abiding by Chain of Responsibility (CoR) regulations and fatigue compliance laws.

Accurate driver hours for accurate payslip information.

Using the driver daily summary report outlined above, accounts & payroll staff are given a snapshot into the history of completed work hours for each calendar day with the driver daily summary report.

It's your all-in-one driver work record. With a few clicks, you are able to run a report on the total hours worked for each driver for each calendar day to compare to payroll records.

With this simple yet powerful report, you are able to quickly audit through time sheets with actual fatigue information without have to sift through logbooks.

This helps ensure their are no major discrepancies in work hours recorded.
